Position Summary
Flexible work arrangements, including virtual/hybrid work locations, are an integral part of the School of Medicine's Working Forward initiative. As such, this position's work location is designated as hybrid. Please note that the designated work location is subject to change based on the unit's business needs.
The Student Care Coordinator collaborates with the School of Medicine Student Affairs leadership team and other SOM colleagues to support medical students experiencing a wide range of personal and academic challenges as they navigate their medical school experience. They meet 1-1 or in groups with students (in person and/or virtually) to connect them with resources and services to support their success including outreach, follow-up, advocacy, and resource connection.

Specific responsibilities may include the following:
1) Provide non-clinical case management services to medical students.
2) Support student access to and understanding of School of Medicine, university, and off-campus resources, services, and policies as they may related to concerns including, but not limited to psychological health, academic concerns, physical health, economic concerns, social adjustment, or other matters that may interfere with a medical student's ability to be successful.
3) Collect, synthesize, and document all pertinent facts regarding referred students, their concerns, and situations.
4) Monitor and maintain up-to-date, accessible, and accurate student records on a timely basis.
5) Support other Student Affairs functions, including but not limited to attendance and excessive absences, grade tracking, exam performance, career exploration, and preparation for leave of absence and return from leave.
6) Undertake special projects and duties as needed or requested.

This role reports to the Senior Director for Student Affairs.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience in student services is required. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a compassion tor students, obvious leadership skills, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, a willingness to initiate or take on new and challenging assignments, and a spirit of cooperation among colleagues and constituents.

Relevant experience and skills include:
Experience in student affairs and career advising is helpful.
Ability to establish rapport and relate well to students, faculty, employers, and staff.
Ability to utilize technology in the delivery of student programs.
Ability to effectively create and deliver presentations and workshops to large audiences.
Proficiency in all aspects of computer operations essential including, strong working knowledge of MS Office Word and Excel.
A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail with the ability to operate with minimal daily supervision required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to proactively identify issues and develop creative solutions.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Professional experience working with college students in a higher education setting.
Professional experience with non-clinical case management.
Demonstrated skills in any number of support services areas, such as: referral coordination, student advocacy, or crisis support.
Demonstrated experience successfully building networks with colleagues.
Experience in student data management systems (Navigate, Connect Carolina).
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and Microsoft Office 365 applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Experience in non-clinical case management and familiarity with Case Management functional area standards as delineated by the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
