The Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Science's Department Manager supervises the administrative services of the Informatics department. Responsibilities include budgetary financial management, planning, human resources, IT, space and facilities, and student services.

The Department Manager reports to the department chair and functions independently to support the teaching, research and public service mission of the Department of Informatics.

Supervises 2 career staff and supports approximately 31 Senate faculty, 8 Emeriti, 40 Non-Senate Faculty, 148 quarterly Teaching Assistants and Readers, 40 quarterly Graduate Student Researchers, and 250 graduate students.

In conjunction with overseeing the daily administration of the department, the Department Manager is responsible for implementation of policies and procedures to ensure that needs of the Department are met.


Your Role on the Team

Provides immediate supervision to a unit or group of operational or technical employees. A portion of time may be spent performing individual tasks related to the unit; however, supervisory activities must constitute a primary part of the job. Supervises unit operations to ensure compliance with departmental or organizational policies, procedures, and defined internal controls. Ensures accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental standards and procedures.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $$69,500.00- $$83,000.00 (Annual).

Required:

  • Working knowledge of the organization's processes and procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs.
  • Interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising, and counseling to effectively motivate others.
  • Skills to evaluate issues and identify resolutions.
  • Strong service orientation with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Solid knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques (long and shortrange planning); preparation and administration of a multi-million dollar budget with multiple funding sources; human resources and risk management planning; accounting and payroll.
  • Skill in the management of space and facilities including developing and monitoring space and facilities utilization plans and justifying Minor Capital Improvement requests.
  • Strong skills in short-term planning, analysis, problem-solving, and customer service.
  • Demonstrated skills in employee supervision and HR administration.
  • Solid knowledge of the organization's processes, protocols and procedures with a focus on budget, account and fund management and / or personnel management within labor contract(s) and personnel policy.
  • Solid interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising, and counseling to effectively motivate others
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience
