Reporting to the Quality Excellence Manger, the Quality Excellence Chemist will be focused on problem solving, defect resolution and customer centric improvement projects. This position is in Kankakee, IL.

Job duties include contact with other employees and access confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. The Company therefore has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and is necessary to protect the safety of the Company's staff, employees, and business relationships.



  • Analyze line data proactively as repeated problems occur at the customer (ex - color or gloss)
  • Follow first time batches as needed for customer or technical modifications (ex - orange tag batches)
  • Leads Technical or Commercial investigations and participates as a key team member in more complex investigations.
  • Completes lab work or does data analysis necessary to determine root cause as required by an internal investigation or Quality Excellence Continuous Improvement projects.
  • Works with QE team to facilitate and improve divisional work instructions and drive process adherence
  • Creates and performs process verification audits when required by an internal investigation or recent QE/CI process changes and reports results at various levels of the organization. Technical or Customer focused
  • Completes monthly data collection and analysis including defect summaries and complaint type categorization.

    • Identifies data or process errors and corrects where appropriate
    • Escalates to other team members which problems or solutions are out of job scope

  • Document customer complaints (including less complex ARCs), records investigation findings, and closes investigations within their responsibility level after satisfactory resolution is achieved.
  • Assist with Site Support duties when requested
  • Investigate and resolve customer complaints for Coil products by building strong relationships with the Technical and Technical Service teams.
  • Help investigate and assist QC/Manufacturing to resolve non-conforming conditions on production batches.

    • Proficient knowledge in manufacturing processes to help tie the customer defect to a specific process flaw and correct the issue

  • Completes appropriate forms and documentation regarding problem investigations, results, and conclusions; informs necessary team members of conclusions and actions.
  • Performs various calculations to prepare, perform, and conclude causal analysis. Tasks are varied and require business judgment.

    • Proficient with excel and mini-tab data plotting, specifically scatter plots, I-MRs, and using other basic plots to convey a conclusion

  • Attend and participate in meeting driven by the business quality group (QE, Customer, Technical).
  • Maintains a clean and safe working environment.
  • Responds with a suggestions of what is needed to solve the assigned problems internally or externally within 24 - 48 hours
  • Supports site quality efforts by participating in site projects such as complaint corrective action implementation, COPQ reduction, OTMIS, or participating in Manufacturing investigations.
  • Active contributor to QRB, GBMR, ARC closure, and customer facing project meetings
  • When needed, visits customers and Technical labs to better understand customer conditions, background work on projects, formulation processes, and impacts of process variance.
  • Supports North American toller auditing


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS



  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
  • 1 year of lab experience
  • Possess strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks.
  • Excellent organization and planning skills
  • Team- oriented and skilled in working within a collaborative environment
  • Must be able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to determine the difference between colors so you can correctly tint paint to the colors desired by customers.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Majors in Chemistry, Engineering
  • 2 of professional lab, Quality or formulation experience
  • DFSS Yellow Belt
  • ARC 201 Trained
