Manufacturing Electrical Engineer - Controls Launch Technician

The Launch Engineer is responsible for providing Controls and Robotics support during design, installation and launch phase of new program manufacturing equipment. Duties include writing specifications and interacting with contractors and project teams. The Launch Engineer is responsible for the validation of all equipment to the FCA NAFTA Controls and Robotics standards as well as state and federal codes. They are also responsible for tracking equipment build and resolving Controls and Robotics issues from the equipment design phase through the installation. In addition to their core responsibilities, the Launch Engineer must also manage their documentation, software and final deliverables including hand-off to FCA Vehicle Assembly Plants and implement IT applications and part traceability requirements as outlined by Vehicle Process Engineering (ME).

Basic Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma with 3 years manufacturing experience
  • PLC/Motion Controllers/HMI programming proficiency is required
  • Ability to work any shift, overtime and travel both domestic and international 60-80%
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering / Computer Science or equivalent
  • Manufacturing automotive process engineering knowledge
  • Minimum of 3 years of engineering design experience in a related field with an emphasis on the following; Electrical schematic design, controls engineering, PLC programming, network management and interface to plant floor systems
  • 5 years of controls and/or plant floor systems integration experience
  • Familiarity with governing codes such as OSHA, CSA, ANSI, NFPA70 & NFPA79 and UL508 & UL508a as they pertain to Controls & Safety
  • Strong and proficient knowledge of Controls electrical design
  • Strong and proficient understanding of field networks: EIP, DeviceNet, ProfiNet, etc.
