The Honors College
(HC) invites self-motivated students with strong initiative and troubleshooting
skills to join our dynamic team of HC Roadrunners. Pivotal in supporting the
academic and personal growth of HC students, this position offers mentorship,
guidance, and resources to help HC students navigate the challenges and
opportunities of college life. By providing connections and information about
HC programs, events, opportunities, academic options, and community features to
students on a regular and ongoing basis, Roadrunners will serve as a complement
to student success initiatives by offering peer-to-peer cooperation and
interaction, supporting student engagement across all facets of HC's
operations; and help cultivate an enthusiastic Honors community of lifelong
learners and scholars. Additionally, this position serves as the first point of
contact for students and visitors.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Cultivate a welcoming and encouraging environment that empowers students to excel academically and embrace their unique paths.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and other HC student leaders and groups to promote a vibrant and inclusive honors community.
  • Assist in coordinating significant college events, including new student orientations, convocation, commencement, preview night, and distinguished lectures.
  • Provide student-to-student mentorship to all Honors College students, including, but not limited to, academic, personal, and transitional success.
  • Serve as a liaison between students and the college administration, advocating for students' perspectives and needs.
  • Foster partnerships with faculty, staff, and HC student organizations to identify areas where additional support is needed for students' success.
  • Support administrative and operational needs of the college as assigned, such as answering phone calls, making copies for faculty and staff, and distributing the college mail.

Enrollment and Schedule Requirements:

  • Commit to minimum of 10 hours per week.
  • Availability to work over the summer and winter break is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.



Preferred Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Sophomore, junior, or senior in good standing in the Honors College.
  • Work-study is strongly preferred. However, we will review applications for this position from all students regardless of work study award.

Preferred qualifications

  • Customer Service Experience -The ideal candidate should have previous experience in customer service roles and a proven track record of providing excellent customer support. They should possess a positive and professional attitude, contributing value to customer interactions and teamwork. A strong commitment to collaboration, problem-solving, and enhancing the overall customer experience is essential.
  • Interpersonal & Communication Skills - Candidates must possess strong active listening abilities, effective communication skills and a high degree of empathy.
  • Time Management - Candidates must have strong time management skills, be reliable, and effectively multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to Continuous Learning- Candidates should show a strong willingness to learn and adopt new skills and best practices. Adaptability and a dedication to continuous growth are highly valued.
