Job Summary

Entry level position that reports to the Patrol Support Unit Supervisor. Responsible for performing a variety of tasks associated with traffic and crowd control, parking control and enforcement, school crossing assistance, citation issuance, service complaints, animal control, lockout/assist motorist, clerical/municipal court duties, locking park comfort stations (seasonal), squad portering and a variety of other Police Department activities.


Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Administrative

  • Courier assignments for the Police Department and as otherwise assigned.
  • Filing, recording, copying, records research and other clerical tasks associated with the Police Department and Municipal Court.
  • Submission of police reports, call records, citations, related investigative documents, special reports and other forms associated with patrol support function.
  • Ensure a ready supply of often used forms and documents in officer work areas.
  • Facilitate the intake of Municipal Court appearances during court hours.

Patrol Support

  • Respond to Assist Citizen, Disabled Motorist, Animal Violation, Parking Violation, Hazardous Condition, Littering / Dumping, Abandoned Vehicle, Found Property and other calls for service as assigned.
  • Initiate parking enforcement within established guidelines.
  • Coordinate the pick-up of stray and injured animals by the Humane Animal Welfare Society and wildlife care organizations.
  • Serve subpoenas for Municipal Court.
  • Fingerprint citizens for employment purposes.
  • Traffic and crowd control at crash scenes, special events and other incidents as a supplement to sworn officer ranks.
  • Assist sworn officers with the fingerprinting of prisoners.
  • Secure park rest stations and check security of other village owned buildings and installations.

Housekeeping

  • Ensure the cleanliness and orderliness of officer work areas, Municipal Lock Up / Booking Room, Fitness Room, the indoor parking garage, and other high security areas.
  • Maintain cleanliness of fleet vehicles.
  • Facilitate the transfer of fleet vehicles for repairs and service.
  • Ensure ready supply of first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and other consumable patrol equipment.

Qualifications

Education/Training/Experience

  • High school or equivalent required

License
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License required by date of appointment, excluding any serious driving violations or a pattern of offenses that could be detrimental to performing the duties of a police aide.
Other
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Ability to work flexible hours including night shift, weekends and holidays

Physical Tasks and Environmental Conditions

  • Ability to lift/carry up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to stand or be on one's feet for extended periods of time and in all weather conditions
  • Possess physical ability and motor skills to perform tasks including but not limited to traffic and crowd control and animal pick ups
