We are hiring a Safety Specialist at our Medford, OR operation. In this role, you'll implement and coordinate the company's safety programs to reduce and eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses and financial losses.
This is a non-union, hourly position.
Major Job Responsibilities will include:
- Identify conditions that could lead to incidents, accidents and injuries and recommend preventative action.
- Monitor and provide training for DOT compliance; assist with field vehicle inspections to identify safety or compliance issues.
- Review and track accountability documentation to identify trends for incidents, accidents and safety violations and suggest improvements.
- Investigate incidents and accidents and actively participate in incident reviews.
- In coordination with others, monitor workers compensation situations in the field and other general claims.
- Provide guidance for compliance with safety policies, region and corporate safety initiatives and local, state and federal regulations.
- Maintain excellent field presence to strengthen the safety culture and monitor performance.
- Perform new employee safety orientation and participate in ongoing safety training.
- Compile, analyze and interpret statistical data and prepare reports.
- Stay abreast of safety related regulations, rules or laws that impact the industry and company.
- In coordination with others, address public safety complaints.
- Collaborate with safety professionals in the Region to share knowledge, create policy, identify trends to strengthen the safety culture.
- Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- College degree in safety, engineering, construction or other appropriate discipline, preferred, or equivalent combination of experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in health and safety programs for construction, a regulator agency or similar organization or similar experience with a strong focus on safety.
- Ability to connect with people to establish and maintain relationships.
- Communicate effectively both orally and written.
- Ability to reason and solve problems timely.
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving history.
- Ability to travel to work locations in southern Oregon regularly.
- Working knowledge of safety regulations for construction; OSHA, MSHA and DOT/FMCSA.
- Proficient with operation of personal computer, Ipad, Iphone with various applications.
- Certified trainer or significant experience in training for safety compliance preferred.
