Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Intern / Co-Op - Civil Engineering in our Acton, Massachusetts office. The position offers the opportunity to apply engineering (civil and geotechnical) academic knowledge to real-world situations while also learning the business skills needed for a successful consulting career. The position is full-time (40 hours/week) for approximately 13 to 15 weeks during the fall semester of 2025. Preferred candidates would have the ability to return to the position for additional opportunities during their undergraduate or graduate studies. Candidates are responsible for coordinating their own transportation to and from the office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Assist with engineering calculations using computer-based technical tools;
  • Technical writing of reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals;
  • Data input and analysis, including preparing maps, tables, and figures;
  • Follow instructions and interact with engineers, geologists, office administrative staff, CADD designers, and contractors and construction personnel;
  • Potential for fieldwork such as soil sampling, stormwater inspections, and drilling and contractor monitoring; and
  • Local travel or driving to project sites as needed.


Education and Licensure

  • Currently registered in a Bachelor's or Master's university degree program in a civil engineering or related discipline. (required)
  • Degree focus area in civil, geotechnical, or environmental engineering. (preferred)
  • Upper division (e.g. senior) or Master's enrollment. (preferred)


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Local to the Acton, MA area for work proximity on short notice. (preferred)
  • An interest in working on civil, geotechnical, and geoenvironmental projects, including landfill design, earth retaining structures, deep and weak foundations, dams, forensic investigations, geotechnical monitoring, numerical stability analysis, and geohazard mitigation. (required)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and slope stability software. (preferred)
  • Outstanding academic credentials and exceptional interpersonal, technical writing, oral and written communication, and problem-solving skills. (preferred)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license, reliable transportation, and satisfactory driving record for business travel to project sites. (required)
