Brief Summary of Work for this Position |
The Linux Endpoint Administrator and Technician plays a pivotal role in enhancing service delivery and expanding offerings for campus constituents. This position encompasses three primary responsibilities:
Linux Endpoint Administrator: Responsible for the technical and analytical tasks involved in developing, designing, and supporting IT equipment and systems for the research, business, and instructional functions of faculty and staff. Tier 1 and 2 Support for Windows, macOS, and Linux Endpoints: Independently resolves incident tickets. Provide technical support in-person with computer and peripheral issues, new computer setups, driver installs, hardware failures, etc. Provide application support for software such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Office 365, SharePoint, MS Teams, Zoom, and multiple discipline specific software programs. Backup to Campus Linux Server Administrator: Collaborate with campus Linux administrators to develop and follow procedures or technical instructions, ensuring seamless support and maintenance of server infrastructure.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Graduation from a two year technical college with a major in computer science, information technology or related area and one year in the information technology field related to the position's role; or graduation from a four year college or university and one year experience in the information technology field related to the position's role; or graduation from a four year college or university with a major in computer science or information technology or related degree. Related information technology experience may be substituted year for year for the required education. |
Preferred education, professional skills and experience |
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Math, Engineering or other related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and four years progressive experience in the field of information technology including at least two years of experience in Business and Technology Applications related work.
- 5+ years of experience working in a related role
- Strong knowledge of the Linux OS platform, specific knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu and Rocky Linux systems administration and troubleshooting
- Strong knowledge of support for Linux device management with OS deployment practices and of supporting Enterprise Applications on Linux Server OS
- Strong knowledge of core OS services such as: SSH, SFTP, NFS, DNS, DHCP, Samba, LDAP
- Strong knowledge of Patch and Vulnerability management for both Desktop and Server Linux OSs
- Strong knowledge of SCCM, JAMF, and Intune.
- Familiarity with networking concepts including static IPs, NAT, DNS, DHCP, etc.
- Knowledge of writing shell and bash scripts, scheduling cron jobs, and managing users in a Linux distribution.
- Familiarity with working in Cloud hosted environments (Azure. OCI)
- Familiarity with networking tools (ping, tracert, traceroute, tcpdump, etc.)
- Familiarity with tier one and two desktop support for Windows and macOS devices as well as device management practices with InTune, SCCM, and Jamf Pro
- Excellent technical troubleshooting skills, communication skills, interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Experience with Team Dynamix or other IT Service Management platforms.
- Understanding critical issues, challenges, and opportunities within higher education.
