Job ID: 94197

Are you driven by the opportunity to tackle complex challenges and work alongside top leaders? Do you want to be part of a team that delivers outcomes that others simply can't? If so, you've come to the right place.
Who You'll Work With
You will join the Greater Boston office as part of our Life Sciences Intelligence (LSi) team in North America. This is a hybrid role, with 2-3 days per week working in-person from McKinsey's Boston office and potential travel to additional McKinsey or client offices based on project needs.
The LSi team is part of McKinsey's global Client Capabilities Network (CCN) with more than 3,500 colleagues delivering distinctive client impact and fueled by a culture of innovation. The CCN is our platform for innovating our service to Life Sciences clients, building intellectual property, digital assets, and consistent approaches for delivering high-quality client service.
Within the CCN, our Life Sciences team is the second largest industry group in the firm, with 100+ professionals across major hubs in Boston, Lisbon, Poland, India, Japan, and China. In this role, you will have opportunities for high levels of interaction with Life Sciences consultants and the rest of the LSi team.
We believe the Life Sciences team has exciting years ahead. We plan to expand our service offering to internal and external clients, to meaningfully develop and advance our portfolio of proprietary analytical and knowledge assets, and to play a bigger role in externalizing our knowledge and broadening our networks.
Your impact within our firm
In this role, you will work with McKinsey colleagues and clients on Life Sciences analytics topics, including analytics on licensed third-party and proprietary data, as well as leveraging external and McKinsey-developed Generative AI tools.
You may act as a translator, shaping business questions into analytical methodologies and Generative AI prompts, as well as an executor of these analyses. These projects will mostly leverage analytics for client projects in pharma commercial topics, but may span the scope of the Life Sciences industry including medical devices, and non-commercial pharma topics.
You will be working with McKinsey colleagues to scope business questions and understand, disaggregate, and prioritize their information needs in client engagements. You will problem solve across various international, cross-functional knowledge & intelligence teams to determine the most appropriate solutions to key issues, effectively balancing quality, availability, timelines, and cost factors.
You will leverage proprietary and third-party data and tools (analytical, industry-specific, and function-specific) to perform primary research and required analyses with the highest rigor. You will also perform analytical analyses on various third-party and proprietary data, leveraging a variety of analytical approaches and tools (e.g., Excel, R, Generative AI tools). You will then communicate insights and deliver end products to consulting teams in a variety of formats, including memos, PowerPoint presentations and tables.
In addition to working with consulting teams and clients, you will continuously develop your knowledge and skills in Life Sciences. Together with LSi colleagues and Life Sciences practice leadership, you will analyze new topics and trends and integrate them into our existing capabilities infrastructure, or potentially develop new offerings.
You can expect extensive coaching and further development opportunities. In addition to mentoring from experienced colleagues, you will regularly take part in high-quality internal training.
Your qualifications and skills
  • University degree in business, economics, or a STEM related field; advanced degree in related field is a plus
  • 0-2 years of post-university experience in the pharmaceutical and/or healthcare industry, potentially including clinical experience, with a deep understanding of the overall industry landscape and mechanics
  • Strong analytical skills, including experience in data manipulation and analytics through a variety of tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, R), potentially including experience in patient-level claims data analytics
  • Experience with crafting and iterating on clear, effective, and relevant prompts for Generative AI models
  • Ability to translate business questions into analytical approaches, and contextualize outputs to drive problem solving
  • High quality standards, a commitment to completing tasks within deadlines, and the ability to work under pressure
  • Interest in conducting business research work in a dynamic environment
  • Superb people skills and professional attitude
  • Understanding of general business concepts and terminology
  • Ability to multi-task in fast paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Drive creatively to solve problems through intellectually challenging projects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong team orientation
  • Attention to detail
