Salary/Grade: 399/S1

This position is part of a collective bargaining unit. Pay for this position will be $28.14 per hour. Rate is determined by collective bargaining agreement.

Job Summary

Under the direction of a Maintenance Electrician-A, performs maintenance on electrical systems, alarm systems, equipment, fixtures, and devices. Assignments are usually in verbal or written forms but may include penciled layouts, rough sketches, or blueprints.

Please Note: Second Shift 2pm-10pm.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Maintains electrical/electronic systems which operate on alternating or direct current circuits, generators, panels, switches, meters, and circuit breakers.
  • Maintains electric switchboards, panels, public address systems, alarm systems, motors, heaters, and other apparatus utilizing electricity or its effects.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on transformer vaults and switchgear for safety and power conditions.
  • Repairs, tests, and maintains fire alarm and other special alarm systems.
  • Tests and maintains operation of emergency generators and transfer switches.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Searches for ways to improve workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Maintains records of work performed, with running inventory of parts used.

  • Performs job-related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent combination of educational training and experience from which comparable skills can be required;
  • Experience/vocational training as an electrician helper or maintenance worker with the following requirements: 2 years job related experience or 2 year certificate in related field preferred;
  • Basic understanding of low voltage electrical systems and wiring principles.

Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)

  • Attended or attending local 399 union school or equivalent experience and training;
  • Successfully uses multiple software program independently. Software may include Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook, webmail and Peoplesoft;
  • Proficiency with mobile devices including iOS.
