PT Recreation Therapy Lead Program Specialist

The Town of Brookline is seeking a Part-Time Recreation Therapy Lead Program Specialist to support our Therapeutic Recreation Division. The Lead Program Specialist implements recreational programming that is inclusive, adaptive, and appropriate for children, teens, and adults with varying abilities. The primary role of this position will be to lead community outings and seasonal programming for teens and adults with disabilities. Additional tasks/program support may be required as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate and implement specialized and inclusive group programming for individuals with varying abilities. Program opportunities include but are not limited to arts, dance, fitness, nature based, music, theatre and sports.
  • Practice effective group management and safety during all programs, community outings, and events.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive environment for all participants by adapting activities and directions to meet individual needs when necessary.
  • Manage participant behavioral concerns when necessary.
  • Communicate respectfully and effectively with parents, participants, and the Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.
  • Works approximately 4-18 hours weekly or bi-weekly depending on program schedule. Seasonal multi-week programs may run from 5-8 weeks long. Hours will vary based on program length and required program planning time.
  • Ensure proper supervision of part time support staff during programs.
  • Drives 12-passenger van and 15-passenger mini-bus with participants, as necessary by program. Van training provided until individual is comfortable with their abilities.


Qualifications:



  • Actively enrolled in or graduated from an accredited college/university program such as Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Management, Special Education, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Social Work, or Early Childhood Education is preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required; ability to work cooperatively and communicate well with others, verbally and in writing.
  • Must have a Valid Class D Driver's License with a clean driving record


Salary $18.00/hr. Works approximately four to six hours weekly. Open until filled. Please apply asap.
