The Office of Strategic Initiatives at the University of Illinois System is actively engaged in supporting the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) on various initiatives aimed at advancing public health outcomes across the state. By synergizing the expertise and resources of the University of Illinois System and the Illinois Department of Public Health, this collaborative partnership is poised to make significant strides in advancing public health outcomes, fostering innovation, and creating lasting positive impacts on the lives of individuals and communities across Illinois. The Office of Strategic Initiatives seeks a highly motivated individual to serve as a data analyst IDPH, as a Project Manager, Data Analysis. This individual will provide the management, analysis, and rapid dissemination of data for patient safety and quality priorities. They will manipulate large datasets, develop effective data visualizations, and identify solutions to enhance the timeliness and utility of data provided to an array of users.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Clean, merge, organize, and manage data from multiple sources, including transferring data to reporting database.
  • Perform data validation and complex data analysis.
  • Create and execute complex MS SQL queries and procedures.
  • Develop interactive Tableau data dashboards and ArcGIS visualizations and maps.
  • Research and apply data presentation best practices to ensure clear, concise communication of data.
  • Conduct gap analysis to identify data visualization needs for the Division of Patient Safety and Quality, including strategies to make data more available and useful to diverse groups (e.g., healthcare facilities, local health departments).
  • Recommend and provide technical assistance and training on data analysis and reporting and development of data dashboards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in public health, biostatistics, mathematics, computer science, data analytics, or a closely related field.
  • This position is hybrid and requires in-person work 2-4 per month in the IDPH Chicago or Springfield office

Required Experience:
  • Three years of professional experience conducting data analysis and creating data visualizations.


KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
  • Experience with research and statistical modeling of longitudinal data.
  • Experience collecting or analyzing healthcare facility claims data.
  • Excellent data analysis skills and proficiency in SAS or other statistical software.
  • Excellent knowledge of MSSQL queries, procedures, and views.
  • Experience with Python data manipulation.
  • Experience with gap analysis.
  • Experience using data visualization software, such as Tableau and/or ArcGIS.
  • Organizational skills demonstrating high attention to detail and the ability to organize multiple priorities.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment.
  • Proficient computer skills and advanced knowledge of applicable computer systems, including Microsoft Office programs: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, SmartSheet.
  • Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic fast-paced environment.
The budgeted salary range for the position is $90,000 to $103,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
