The Office of Strategic Initiatives at the University of Illinois System is actively engaged in supporting the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) on various initiatives aimed at advancing public health outcomes across the state. This partnership leverages the strengths and resources of both institutions to address pressing health challenges and enhance the well-being of communities throughout Illinois. By synergizing the expertise and resources of the University of Illinois System and the Illinois Department of Public Health, this collaborative partnership is poised to make significant strides in advancing public health outcomes, fostering innovation, and creating lasting positive impacts on the lives of individuals and communities across Illinois. The Office of Strategic Initiatives is seeking a detail-oriented, highly proactive individual to coordinate public reporting within the Division of Patient Safety and Quality at the Illinois Department of Public Health. This individual will provide project management and data analysis for the Illinois Hospital Report Card and Public Health Community Map.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identifies and organizes requirements, milestones, and timelines and provides project management to facilitate twice-yearly updates of the Illinois Hospital Report Card and Community Map.
  • Coordinates with hospital discharge data manager and other data stewards to compile data for the Report Card and Community Map.
  • Analyzes National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) data and hospital discharge data for updates to the Report Card, Community Map, and other data products.
  • Performs data quality reviews and troubleshoots issues with healthcare facilities.
  • Communicates with healthcare facilities regarding Report Card preview periods, relevant updates, and their data-related questions.
  • Analyzes and implements process improvements to strengthen documentation, communication, and enhancements related to the Report Card and Community Map.
  • Develops and delivers presentations for a variety of audiences about the Report Card and Community Map to increase their utility and reach.
  • Prepares report summarizing Hospital Report Card activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in biostatistics, statistics, life sciences, or a related field of study, preferably within the field of epidemiology.
  • Hybrid position. Must be able to work from Chicagoland IDPH office 2-4 times per month.

Required Experience:
  • At least three years of professional experience in: 1) quantitative data analysis 2) organizing and managing multiple complex public health projects involving a range of individuals or groups 3) and communicating in writing and orally with healthcare professionals, public health professionals, and/or the public


Preferred Education:
  • Master's degree in biostatistics, statistics, life sciences, or a related field of study, preferably within the field of epidemiology

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
  • Three years of professional experience related to collecting, analyzing, and/or reporting healthcare data for performance measurement or regulatory compliance activities.
  • Proficiency using SAS and Excel. Ability to build and maintain complex and efficient SAS routines, macros, and multi-processing techniques.
  • Experience with acquiring, organizing, and synthesizing quantitative data to identify key findings for varied audiences.
  • Professional experience analyzing National Healthcare Safety Network Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) data.
  • Organizational skills demonstrating high attention to detail and the ability to organize multiple priorities.
  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient computer skills and advanced knowledge of applicable computer systems, including Microsoft Office programs: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint. Working knowledge of Smartsheet software.
  • Ability to work well independently as well as a part of a team in a hybrid environment.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic fast-paced environment.
The budgeted salary range for the position is $85,000 to $100,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
