The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Programs and Events, the Assistant Director of Programs and Events assists with the overall management of the Executive MBA, MBA, and MS student experience through signature programs, social events, and advising student leaders. They will also provide support to the overall operations of the CBS degree programs, actively working with other student affairs and academic affairs officers in the department.

The Office of Student Affairs at Columbia Business School (CBS) supports the academic and community experience for MBA, Executive MBA and MS students by creating an inclusive environment in which all students feel a sense of belonging, agency and partnership in co-creating their optimal student experience. The Office of Student Affairs is composed of four teams that work collaboratively to enhance the student experience: Academic Advising and Student Success, Student Life and Engagement, Programs and Events, and Operations and Student Services.

Responsibilities

Event Planning and Execution



  • Supports the planning and execution of major events, including EMBA and MS Orientations, Graduation ceremonies, and various social programs and events throughout the year. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless event logistics and a memorable experience for all participants.
  • Provides on-site support during EMBA class days, Residence Weekends, and International Seminars, ensuring a positive and enriching experience for students.


Student Advising and Engagement



  • Advises the EMBA Cluster Chairs, supporting a strong sense of community and providing guidance on best practices for cluster programming and cluster spending.
  • Engages with students to solicit feedback and monitor class dynamics, identifying opportunities for process improvements in student activities and support services.


Data & Website Management



  • Collects data, prepares reports, and manages student-facing communications as needed.
  • Manages and maintains designated portions of the website to ensure that the onboarding process for incoming students is efficient and effective.


Collaboration and Teamwork



  • Acts as a collaborative member of the Student Affairs team as a whole, working with different departments as necessary to ensure an outstanding student experience and to build a strong sense of community for all students.
  • Undertakes special projects as assigned, contributing to the continuous improvement of the Office of Student Affairs and the overall student experience.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required. 2 -4 years related experience required.
  • Must be able to work well with people at all levels of the organization. Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills required. Strong service-oriented approach and a commitment to ensuring the best possible experience for students required. Professionalism and judgment required in representing the Office of Student Affairs to students, professors and senior administrators. Candidate must demonstrate the ability to manage changing priorities and multiple projects while planning for a variety of contingencies. Must be computer proficient. Discretion and a keen sense of fairness and empathy in dealing with sensitive and confidential matters is required. The ability to work evening and weekend shifts is required
