The Quality Engineer II supports the Quality Manager in implementing and maintaining the Quality Management System and quality standards at the SGPPL Worcester facility. This role ensures compliance with corporate quality policies, regulatory requirements, ISO standards, and customer specifications. The Quality Engineer II provides technical expertise in various quality areas, plans and directs activities related to quality standards for processes, materials, and products, and develops methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation. Key responsibilities include leading the resolution of customer, supplier, and internal issues, improving performance through collaboration with customers and production, and implementing process control and quality plans. Additionally, the Quality Engineer II administers the customer rejection program, interacts with Engineering and Suppliers to enhance product quality, participates in development projects, and conducts Quality Systems audits to support continuous improvement.

The Quality Engineer II is a key member of the High Performance Solutions sector within the Composite Systems division, based in Worcester, MA. This role supports the Quality Manager in maintaining the Quality Management System, ensuring compliance with corporate policies, regulatory requirements, ISO standards, and customer expectations. The Quality Engineer II develops and implements quality standards, leads the resolution of customer and supplier issues, and continuously improves product quality through collaboration with Engineering and Suppliers. Additionally, this role administers the customer rejection program and conducts Quality Systems audits to support ongoing improvements. The Quality Engineer II also plays a critical role in various development and improvement projects, providing technical expertise and ensuring the highest quality standards are met.

  • Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in a technical field (required).
    • Master's degree (preferred).


  • Work Experience:

    • 3+ years as a Quality professional (required).
    • 3+ years focusing on customer complaints (required).
    • 3+ years in internal audits (preferred).


  • Practical/Technical Knowledge:

    • Proficiency in quality concepts and tools (e.g., sampling theory, statistical analysis, DOE, Lean, DMAIC, SPC, FMEA, Control Plans) (required).
    • Familiarity with general manufacturing practices and ISO 9001 Standard (required).
    • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills (required).
    • Self-motivated with the ability to make independent decisions (required).
    • Familiarity with customer/supplier specifications and agreements (required).
    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously (required).
    • Professional decorum in interactions with customers, suppliers, and internal personnel (required).
    • Familiarity with coating, converting, and lamination of film products (preferred).
    • Familiarity with ISO 14001 Standard (preferred).


  • Licenses and Certifications:

    • ASQ CQE/CQA (required within 1 year).
    • Greenbelt/Blackbelt (preferred).
    • Lead Auditor Certification (preferred).


  • Travel Requirements:

    • Less than 10% travel for customer/supplier visits.


  • People Management:


    • Indirect resources managed: 3.


  • Communicating and Influencing Skills:

    • Excellent communication, written and verbal skills
    • Act as mentor and coach for site personnel on quality issues, systems, and initiatives (required).


  • Problem Solving:

    • Data analysis and inspection to identify quality issues
    • Coordinate multiple investigation paths and document progress
    • Serve as the point of contact during customer and supplier investigations

Essential Functions:


Continual Improvement and Process Control :



  • Collaborate with customers and production teams to enhance performance.
  • Implement process control and quality plans to ensure consistent product quality.



Customer Rejection Program Administration :



  • Develop and manage the customer rejection program.
  • Handle requests for corrective actions and maintain customer quality metrics.



Proactive Quality Improvement :



  • Regularly interact with Engineering and Suppliers to proactively improve product quality.
  • Address quality issues and implement solutions to prevent recurrence.



Development and Improvement Projects :



  • Lead or participate in various projects aimed at quality engineering improvements.
  • Provide technical expertise and support for development initiatives.



Quality Systems Audits and Support :



  • Conduct Quality Systems audits to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Provide support for continuous improvements in Quality Systems.
