Summary of Job Duties:The Senior Occupational Hygiene Coordinator works under the direction of the Industrial Hygiene Officer (IHO). The Senior Occupational Hygiene Coordinator is responsible for monitoring campus programs designed to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, prevent, and control occupational hazards to UAMS employees in a variety of settings. IH programs utilize the hierarchy of controls and focus on hazards related to environmental, chemical, biological, physical, and ergonomic exposures and include risk assessment, respiratory protection, incident/injury reporting, chemical and biological exposure sampling, noise and hearing conservation, indoor air quality, ergonomics evaluation, and training. The Senior Occupational Hygiene Coordinator will be required to stay current with regulatory changes and update SOPs and policies as needed. This role may require occasional travel to support regional programs and campus locations throughout the state. Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in in environmental sciences, safety, industrial hygiene, chemistry, physics, or a related field.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in occupational health and safety or a related field.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Computer competency.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities including lifting of materials up to 50 lbs. and maneuvering 55 gallon drums using a hand truck or drum dolly, as needed. Must medically qualify to wear a respirator and other PPE, as needed. Position requires occupational exposure to hazardous chemical and radioactive wastes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in occupational health and safety with a focus on occupational and/or industrial hygiene and workplace safety.
  • Board credentials/certifications: OHST, ASP, GSP, SMS, etc.
  • Current OSHA HAZWOPER 40 Hour / 8 hours annual refresher. CPR/AED Certified (provided by UAMS and must be obtained within 12 months of hire).
