Summary of Job Duties:This position supports UAMS through evaluation and coordination of proposed projects presented to the facilities planning, design and construction department. Reports directly to the Director of Planning, Design and Construction. Qualifications:

Minimum Qualification:

  • Bachelor Degree in Architecture, Engineering or related field of study with 5 years commercial design and construction experience.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Master Degree in Architecture, Engineering or related field of study with 3 years commercial design and construction experience.

Additional Information:

  • Will craft preliminary cost opinions for approval to move forward with planning activities where the programming will fully vet the needs.
  • Manage the activities of the consultants hired for design services to ensure UAMS needs are being met.
  • Prepare test fit options for space assignment requests.
  • Post design and bidding will reconcile budget issues through reducing scope or obtaining approval for additional funding.
  • Demonstrate qualities of leadership and understand project construction budget, schedule and scope.
  • Understand construction documents and procedures.
  • Make sound decisions and judgment while maintaining flexibility to refocus on other events.
  • Implement plans and procedures to facilitate the construction process.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics and AutoCAD drawings.
  • Knowledge of building construction materials and methods.
  • Knowledge of State Regulations and building codes and standards for the American Institute of Architects (AIA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), American Society of Healthcare Engineers (ASHE), International Building Code (IBC) and Joint Commission.
  • Ability to interpret technical data.
  • Ability to identify deficiencies in construction plans and actual construction.
  • Must have competent computer skills and be able to adapt to the changing software programs
  • Must have an Arkansas Driver's License or the ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • Requires the ability to navigate on a construction site whether indoors or outside.
  • Revit or Auto-Cad (2 years).
