Job Summary

The Pediatric Pulmonology Consult Service is a busy service providing expert consultation to a wide range of patients throughout the children's hospital. The NP provides direct clinical care, consultation, education, and complex care coordination for pediatric patients with pulmonary conditions. They perform patient triage, assesses, and screens patients with sleep disorders and complex medical conditions, and makes referrals for diagnostic tests and appropriate specialty consultations. The NP performs ongoing service flow for long term treatment and follow up, ensuring appropriate and timely continuity of care. They facilitate communication between patients, health care providers, and referral sources as needed.

There are also opportunities to participate in research to improve patient care, act as a preceptor for APP students, and participate in professional development activities within the broader APP community. The successful candidate is also expected to participate in professional societies for continued specialty education and show self-direction and accountability in the development of the role within the medical center.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $95.69 - $124.10 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications


  • Minimum two (2) years inpatient NP experience managing patients with underlying respiratory disease including those with invasive and noninvasive ventilatory support, tracheostomy, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, and sleep disorders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, professional, computer, and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse interprofessional team and patient population.
  • Ability to satisfactorily perform job duties as defined in the job duties/functions
  • Master's Degree in Nursing with an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner specialization

Preferred Qualifications


  • Three (3) years experience working as an inpatient PNP in a related field

License/Certification


  • California Driver's license (CDL) if required for position.
  • Current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work

  • Current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California.
  • Complete a BRN recognized graduate master's degree program as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Obtain an active and/or transferable DEA license to California and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
  • Submit enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day. CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments.
  • Current AHA BLS.
  • State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice.

UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
