DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will engage in training aimed at enhancing skills pertinent to construction and material inspection, along with other responsibilities within the district. Your role will involve assisting in the evaluation of completed work unit documentation and materials to verify their accuracy and compliance with Department policies. You will help coordinate and manage the district's field construction project records and documentation through ECMS, the PennDOT Project Collaboration Center (PPCC), and mobile applications on PennDOT-issued iPads. Additionally, you will support technical assessments of material costs for highway and bridge projects, ensuring that documentation and work orders from Project Management are thorough and accurate for payment verification. You will also conduct comprehensive audits to validate that final quantities and costs reported by construction personnel are correct.

You will assist in the inspection of road and bridge construction activities to ensure they conform to plans, specifications, and contractual obligations. Your responsibilities will include inspecting permit construction and utility operations on roadways to ensure compliance with the same standards. You will help manage work zone traffic control signs and devices, ensuring their placement aligns with the Work Zone Traffic Control Plan and relevant guidelines. Furthermore, you will assist in processing periodic progress payments as required and perform routine construction inspection tasks, such as verifying stakeouts, elevations, and material placement. You will aid in testing materials for projects and gathering necessary delivery forms and certifications. Collaboration with construction personnel will be essential to review audit findings and address any discrepancies in payments, documentation, and calculations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time Ad-hoc, upon successful completion of probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Montoursville.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
  • One year of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:
  • This particular position requires possession of a valid Class C driver's license.
