The College of Nursing invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Academic Advising Professional III. As a member of the Office of Student & Academic Affairs (OSAA), this role supports students in successfully integrating into the college and thriving personally and academically by developing and implementing strategies, processes, experiences, and networks. The Senior Academic Advisor will advise graduate students enrolled in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs. The Academic Advisor will determine whether degree requirements have been fulfilled, counsel students on options to satisfy degree requirements, refer students to appropriate student success resources, and report student data. The senior advisor will have advanced knowledge and skills to address complex issues while independently navigating the needs of doctoral students and will also serve as a lead for our team of advisors. Duties & Responsibilities |
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Serves as program liaison with campus and community partners including the Graduate College, faculty, doctoral committees, campus student resources, etc.
- Develops and coordinates special programs including improving academic success, efficiently / thoroughly onboarding newly admitted students, developing community among online student cohorts.
Advising Responsibilities:
- Advises professional doctoral students independently on a myriad of topics including unique and complex degree requirements, academic / career goals, and student support resources to support the overall student experience.
- Maintains extensive knowledge and use of principles, theories, and concepts relating to professional doctoral students and their educational journey.
- Employs university, industry, and best practice knowledge to influence leadership and faculty regarding program policies, standards, and processes.
- Provides and applies student data to enrollment, retention, progression, student success, and completion outreach routinely.
- Coordinates logistics for doctoral final defenses.
- Organizes faculty review of transfer credit applicability to nursing degrees.
- Builds a strong doctoral community: communicate proactively; develop regularly scheduled seminars, workshops and other events.
- Responds to student inquiries and concerns in a professional, timely manner.
- Presents and facilitates at various doctoral student events, including: incoming student orientation, new student induction, RISE, white coat ceremony, commencement, etc.
Stakeholder Responsibilities:
- Serves as point person and information source for all University and departmental policies and procedures relevant to graduate education.
- Partner with College of Nursing faculty and administration to support the success of students.
- Mentors and leads advising colleagues with regards to Graduate College policies and procedures and graduate student advising.
- Acts as the administrative link between the program and the Graduate College.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong, professional written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
- Ability to oversee and handle multiple projects at once.
- Ability to support and advise students with degree completion.
- Strong organizational skills, problem solving abilities and ability to maintain discretion and diplomacy toward sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to continually improve processes to enhance the student experience.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, service-oriented office environment - including responding to walk-in questions
- Ability to effectively use administrative systems, databases and standardized software programs, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of strategies for supporting online graduate students.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's
degree required.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience,
or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications |
Master's Degree.Experience working with the University of Arizona Graduate College.Experience working with online student populations. |
