DEPARTMENT/DIVISION DESCRIPTION:

Pediatric Pathology, Department of Pathology, UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.

The UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh has 313 licensed beds and over 13,000 admissions per year.

The John G. Rango's Sr. Research Center is a 300, 000 square-foot state-of-the-art facility in our campus, housing a large group of researchers and academic Departments performing world-class research.

The Anatomic Pathology section is staffed by six faculty members and has extensive subspecialty support from members of other divisions in the Department of Pathology of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

The Department of Pathology at CHP handles approximately 10,000 Surgical Pathology accessions, 1,500 cytological specimens and 35-40 pediatric autopsies per year.

Material ranges from the routine examples of pediatric disease to cases of the highest complexity of modern medicine.

The Department has an ACGME-accredited fellowship program in Pediatric Pathology, which emphasizes academic work with the fellows and requires faculty mentoring.

JOB DUTIES:

As Director of Pathology Research at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, medical director responsibilities include physician oversight of the pediatric pathology research program and development of a translational pathology research core at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Actively participate in new lab developed testing, digital pathology and informatics initiatives.

Sign out of surgical pathology cases and review cytological specimens and pediatric autopsies.

Teach Pathology fellows and Pathology residents.

Participate in research initiatives as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must have an M.D./M.D. PhD/DO degree or equivalent.

Board certification is required in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, or Anatomic Pathology

Preference will be given to candidates who completed formal training in an ACGME accredited Pediatric Pathology Fellowship program and are either Board Certified or eligible for special certification in Pediatric Pathology.

Applicants with additional formal training in Molecular Pathology will be preferred.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

The individual will be a full-time faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh, and a participant in the UPMC/UPP faculty practice plan. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
