The Alabama Cooperative Extension System is seeking qualified applications for a Regional Extension Agent (
REA) to serve on the
Farm and Agribusiness Management Program Priority Team. Applicants must be self-directed and able to thrive in a flexible work environment.

This Extension assignment covers the East Central Region of Alabama (Counties include: Calhoun, Chambers, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Lee, Macon, Randolph, Russell, Talladega, and Tallapoosa)
.
The Agent will be housed in one of the counties in their designated region.
Responsibilities:
The
REA is expected to develop an emphasis and expertise in farm management and economic decision making. In relation to the broader context of farm and agribusiness management, competencies are expected to be developed around agricultural risk management strategies that focus on at least one of the following areas: production, financial, legal, marketing, and human risk. Application of economic principles should be relevant to agricultural production in the region served.
The
REA will be the first point of contact for farm and agribusiness educational programming in East Central Alabama. The
REA will collaborate with state specialists and utilize all available/emerging technologies to provide clients with solutions-based educational programming through meetings, workshops, publications, web sites, and other outreach techniques. Program audiences include farmers, farm families, landowners, agricultural businesses, cooperatives, farm organizations, commodity groups, and mass media.
In addition, the
REA will be part of a statewide Extension Priority Program Team and be expected to participate as a team member to plan, promote, and execute statewide team programs as well as participate in statewide team training opportunities. This includes participation in writing grants and in activities that support applied research/demonstrations beneficial to clientele. Participating in regional and state associations, and other groups, is important for the
REA to develop a reputation as an educational leader with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. The
REA will also assist the team leader and administrators in program evaluation and impact reporting. |
Minimum Qualifications |
A Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness Management, Agribusiness and Food Industry Management or related field. Incumbents will be required to obtain a Master's degree in a relevant field within five years of successfully completing a probationary period. Auburn University offers a tuition education benefit.
Applicants must demonstrate educational leadership in the application of knowledge, be grounded in research-based science, and have the ability to help agricultural producers prosper. They must have strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work with and to deliver educational programming and counseling to audiences from a variety of educational, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds. They must have demonstrated experience within designated area of emphasis. This position requires regular travel to carry out Extension responsibilities. Successful applicants must possess strong leadership and organizational skills, and the ability to respectfully self-motivate their daily priorities. |
