Job Description

The Physical Security Specialist ensures the design, construction, repair and maintenance of all access control, intrusion detection, and video surveillance systems to meet physical security requirements of the Jefferson Enterprise. The incumbent receives and evaluates physical/technical security work orders and requests, investigates requests and troubleshoots problems where appropriate, establishes technical security mission priorities, coordinates with security integrator contractors; and make recommendations for necessary repairs and updates. Incumbent provides subject matter expertise related to security systems and platforms. Incumbent will oversee the work of outside contractors to ensure all work meets Jefferson's requirements and standards. Incumbent reviews and approves contractor invoices. Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson. Assist with the procurement, installation, and maintenance of access control system and video management system, as well as integrating other safety and security subsystems, (i.e. intrusion detection, Omnigo and Strongline). Designs and/or oversees the work of low voltage security contractors who install wiring in Jefferson-wide new construction and remodel projects relating to electronic security systems. Review plans for all access control, intrusion, video surveillance, weapon detection and life safety alarm work related to new construction and renovations commensurate with Jefferson Public Safety Physical Security Standards. Responsible for scheduled maintenance, cleaning and minor repairs or adjustments to electronic devices, including but not limited to access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection devices. Keeps equipment updated and operational, meeting the established local, state, federal and ADA requirements Primary point of contact for service requests on all systems associated with the Public Safety Department. Responds to phone, email, voice mail, verbal and written work orders. Issue and track work orders and work closely with security vendors to assure timely resolution of service issues. Supports security systems integration, mapping and software updates and helps train other public safety personnel in the use of these systems. Assists on new projects in both existing areas and new construction, helping with security assessments, vendor selection, technology upgrades, product selections, testing, field verification of systems, and inspection of work in progress for compliance with standards. Attends project meetings pertaining to security integration. Attends regular staff meetings of the Physical and Technical staff and works to resolve system and project-related issues. Must work to obtain an accredited physical security certification within the first eighteen months from the date of hire, (i.e. CHPA, PSP) Oversees issuing and assigning access rights for access control cards or key fobs and decommissioning the aforementioned access technologies/instruments. Coordinates low-voltage electrical work of contractors related to repair, renovation, and maintenance activities of systems, including intrusion detection systems and equipment, video surveillance systems and equipment, and access control systems and equipment. Performs other duties as assigned Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required): Ability to work under pressure regarding strict deadlines and project milestones, with varying work schedules that occur on an intermittent basis. Work will be performed in the field at the various campus sites, or in the office depending on the demands required for project-related duties and routine maintenance. Working conditions may be somewhat challenging, requiring occasional exposure to safety hazards and noise when reviewing the work of contractors. Regular travel between Jefferson locations in assigned Jefferson vehicle is required. While primary duty hours are dayshift, must be flexible to work in the event of emergencies or other operational needs. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Bacheloras degree preferred Five years of experience working with security systems, including service and maintenance across a broad spectrum of access control, intrusion, and video surveillance systems One year of experience inspecting access control and video surveillance systems. Basic physical security project management best practices experience regarding security systems to include service and maintenance across a broad spectrum of access control, intrusion and video surveillance systems such as, Victor, Software House, Genetec and Lenel. Working knowledge of low voltage systems. Working knowledge of network principles.
