Position Title: Thrift Store Manager Department: Juneau Corps Reports To: Corps Officers FLSA Status: Full-Time / 40 hours per week; Non-Exempt SCOPE OF POSITION: Thrift Store Manager provides supervision, oversight, and management of store operations to generate revenues which support agency administration and programs. The Manager will manage staff, volunteers as well as oversee sales, donation of merchandise, promotion of the store in the community and internal fiscal controls with efficiency, effectiveness, and courtesy. This position will ensure financial success and employee satisfaction through the attainment of measurable objectives which must be accomplished in order to meet the demands of the job. Responsibilities of Manager include: management of warehouse/distribution functions and personnel; store set-up; remodels, and closures; and retail operations. The overall goal is to financially support TSA programs by producing the highest possible revenue and margin while controlling operation costs. The Manager must ensure warehouse operations and donation collections run efficiently within budget and that quality product quickly reaches the sales floor. Key success factors for the Manager include: meet or exceed revenue budget targets; reduce expenses due to improved processes; identify and establish new business/donation opportunities; and develop personnel succession plans to support evolving business needs. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCITONS:
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Limited exposure to weather conditions while on pickups, deliveries, or disposal of refuse. Most work is performed in a heated and ventilated setting. Some brief exposure to extremely cold temperatures during winter months will be expected. Personal protective equipment will be worn as is required in the site's Hazard Communication Program. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Speaking, sitting, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, standing, kneeling, stooping, reaching, handling, fingering, climbing, and balancing. Maintain the ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as boxes or furniture, reach overhead, and carry store supplies. Hearing and visual acuity must be within normal limits. Lifting and moving objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Ability to learn and adhere to proper lifting techniques, always wearing a back brace when lifting heavy items. Maintain the ability to operate a computer, telephone, and similar technologies Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation. Software-related Skills: Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook familiarity preferred. Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training. Language Skills: Must be able to understand, follow and give both written and oral instructions and be comfortable working with diverse individuals in face-to-face contact and over the telephone. The employee must be able to use speech and hearing for ordinary and telephone conversation. Mathematical Skills: Must be able to perform simple calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) and apply concepts such as ratios and percentages in practical situations. Performance Skills: Must be punctual, organized, self-motivated, flexible, and possess a desire to learn and assist those he/she interacts with. Protect the Mission: Must complete the online course for this area and pass the Background Checks required by The Salvation Army for employment. Driving Requirement: Must be a licensed driver with acceptable driving history. Must also complete and pass The Salvation Army Driver Safety Course.
