Position Overview

The Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) serves as OCHIN's lead physician technologist, driving the strategic alignment of clinical operations with the organization's mission to advance health equity. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of health information technology and clinical innovation within OCHIN. The CMIO will design and execute initiatives that enhance clinical outcomes, improve operational efficiency, and promote a transformative digital health strategy. By leveraging data, technology, and cross-functional leadership, the CMIO will guide OCHIN's clinical informatics and health IT systems, including EHRs, telehealth, and emerging technologies, ensuring they align with industry trends and organizational goals.

Essential Duties

Leadership and Strategy:

  • Define and lead OCHIN's clinical IT strategy in collaboration with the CEO to advance health equity.
  • Sponsor and oversee clinical initiatives that align with organizational priorities, ensuring measurable impact on member engagement and clinical outcomes.
  • Act as a visionary for integrating cutting-edge technologies such as AI, remote monitoring, and interoperability into clinical practices.

Clinical Informatics and System Design:

  • Drive the strategic direction for EHR optimization and other health IT systems to enhance the clinical user experience and improve care delivery.
  • Oversee the development and curation of evidence-based clinical content, ensuring alignment with optimal results and regulatory standards.
  • Champion innovative approaches to address social determinants of health through technology and data-driven initiatives.
  • Member Engagement and Practice Transformation:
  • Collaborate with members to design and implement clinical programs that improve care delivery, team wellness, and care transformation.
  • Lead clinical regulatory and quality initiatives, ensuring compliance and advancing payment reform strategies.
  • Actively engage with member organizations to address their evolving clinical IT needs through robust consultation and partnership.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Partner with organizational leaders across departments, including EHR operations, research, compliance, and business development, to ensure clinical alignment with broader organizational objectives.
  • Provide strategic leadership during public health emergencies, offering clinical insights to rapidly adapt workflows and technology.

Change Management and DEIB Advocacy:

  • Lead change management efforts to foster a culture of adaptability, innovation, and inclusivity.
  • Champion Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) initiatives, embedding these values into clinical programs and organizational practices.
  • External Representation:
  • Represent OCHIN's clinical leadership at external conferences and forums, positioning the organization as an innovator in health IT and clinical transformation.
  • Build strategic relationships with external stakeholders to promote collaboration and advance OCHIN's mission.

Requirements
  • MD or equivalent with ABMS board certification in a primary clinical area required.
  • Advanced degree in business, public health, or public policy preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of clinical and patient care experience, with a strong preference for familiarity with FQHCs or safety-net organizations.
  • Proven expertise in clinical informatics (5-10+ years), with ABPM Clinical Informatics Board Certification.
  • Demonstrated leadership in health IT, including EHR optimization, clinical innovation, and quality improvement.
  • Previous success in leading multi-disciplinary teams and driving clinical transformation projects.
  • Epic certification or willingness to obtain certification within six months of hire.
  • Strong knowledge of health care analytics, population health management, and interoperability standards.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Strategic problem-solving and ability to balance operational efficiency with clinical excellence.
  • Availability to travel as required to support OCHIN's mission.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement

To keep our colleagues, members, and communities safe, OCHIN requires all employees-including remote employees, contractors, interns, and new hires-to be vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine, as supported by state and federal public health officials, as a condition of employment. All new hires are required to provide proof of full vaccination or receive approval for a medical or religious exemption before their hire date.

Work Location and Travel Requirements

OCHIN is a 100% remote organization with no physical corporate office location. Employees work remotely from home and many of our positions also support our member organizations on-site for new software installations. Nationwide travel is determined based on OCHIN business needs. Please inquire during the interview process about travel requirements for this position.

Base Pay Overview

The typical offer range for this role is minimum to midpoint, with the midpoint representing the average pay in a national market scope for this position. Please keep in mind that this range represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual salary offer will consider a wide range of factors directly relevant to this position, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, responsibility, and experience, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
