The Materials Manager is responsible for ensuring the consistent supply of both internally and externally produced components in support of the Master Production Schedule and published lead-times. This must be accomplished within the constraints of the raw and WIP inventory limits established. Management of the supply chain will be accomplished through effective use of SAP and efficient utilization of purchasing, planning, and scheduling employees.

A Day In The Life

  • Utilize SAP to generate purchase orders and shop orders in support of the master schedule.
  • Identify and implement methods designed to minimize component shortages while also minimizing raw and WIP inventory levels.
  • Monitor capacity and load on internal work centers to achieve and maintain acceptable lead times, drive for continuous lead-time reduction.
  • Develop and maintain capacity planning tools (PSI) to ensure sufficient internal capacity and identify constraints.
  • Work with Purchasing resources to develop vendor relationships, reduce costs, reduce lead-times, improve quality and improve on-time performance.
  • Participate in the establishment of inventory objectives; routinely track, control, and adjust ordering practices to meet or exceed target inventory turns.
  • Manage material logistics functions associated with the component supply chain.
  • Initiate and maintain excess and obsolete inventory program.
  • Review and disposition all ECNs that involve manufactured or purchased components.
  • Manage and direct team of buyers, planners and schedulers for the business unit, including directing workload, managing performance, coaching and counseling.

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • 5 - 7 years' experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • SAP experience required.
  • Analytical-synthesizes complex or diverse information.
  • Problem solving-identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner and gathers and analyzes information.
  • Communication-speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, demonstrates group presentation skills and conducts meetings.
  • Delegation-delegates work assignments, gives authority to work independently, sets expectations and monitors delegated activities.
  • Management-includes staff in planning, decision-making, facilitating and process improvement; provides regular performance feedback; and develops subordinates' skills and encourages growth.
