Position Highlights

Planning & Operations is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for learning, research, and work through the highest quality trained maintenance staff.

The Phoenix Biomedical Campus (PBC) Planning and Operations team handles campus services such as security, emergency preparedness, maintenance, custodial, motor pool, and utilities. Due to the nature of our educational environment and commitment to the safety of campus, this position will be expected to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Overtime may also be expected as needed.

The Campus is a 30-acre, urban medical and bioscience campus with more than 1.7 million square-feet of biomedical-related research, academic, and clinical facilities with plans for more. It is the only site where you will find all 3 of Arizona's public universities in one location conducting and collaborating in research.

Duties & Responsibilities

Installations and repairs of electrical components or systems.
Operates a variety of electrical testing equipment used for locating and determining types of electrical malfunctions.
Operates, maintains and trouble shoots facility systems including but not limited to the electrical system and associated components, electrical distribution panels, switch gear, motor controls, generators, automatic transfer switches, lighting, low voltage control systems, transformers and Energy Management Systems.
Installs, repairs and maintains motors, transformers, generators, lights, appliances, circuits, wiring and other electrical system equipment and components in compliance with electrical codes, standards and regulations.
Installs raceway, pulls wire, and mounts equipment.
Trims outlets, light fixtures and other electrical finish work.

Reviews plans, drawings, specifications and work orders to determine work requirement and sequence of repairs and/or installations.
Uses electrical formulas to figure out conductor sizes, device and panel sizes, disconnect and electrical load on all types of motors, lights and machines.
Plans and maintains inventory of materials and tools needed to complete the job.

Inspection of electrical equipment and systems for operational performance. Performing preventative maintenance on all electrical equipment and systems as deemed necessary to enhance life cycles. Documents all Preventative, Regulatory, and Corrective maintenance information using department process, work order system and manufacturer specifications and or industry standards as appropriate.

Monitors utility use related to electrical equipment with an emphasis on reducing the use of electricity or other equipment associated with electrical operations. Adjusts equipment or systems to improve performance and life cycle expectations. Liaison and communicate with contractors and stakeholders on planned, current, and future related repairs or installation work for the campus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to work Overtime, as needed.
  • Knowledge of life safety practices to include all LO/TO procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Completion of a high school education or an equivalent combination of apprenticeship program, technical training and/or experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Experienced at reading electrical diagrams.
  • Certified as journeyman electrician.
  • Must maintain proof of certification renewal.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Possess an OSHA 10 certification
  • Prior experience in a college/university setting.
