University Advancement includes: Development (Unit-based and Central), Alumni Engagement and Advancement Communications, Philanthropic Engagement, and Advancement Operations.
Position Summary
The Advancement Executive Writer is an integral member of the Advancement Communication team, reporting to the Director of Advancement Editorial Services. At scale, Advancement Communications is responsible for communicating with the public about UNCG, its donors, and the impact of philanthropy. The Department communicates with Alumni to keep them engaged and connected to their alma mater, and with donors and potential donors to provide compelling opportunities to contribute financially to the success of UNCG and its students.
This position is responsible for creating communications to recognize, appreciate, inform, and engage current and past donors in the life of the University. The Advancement Executive Writer crafts remarks for donor and University events, including but not limited to awards ceremonies, groundbreakings, donor recognition events, and fundraising salons. In doing so, the writer is responsible for maintaining an in-depth knowledge of campus news, priorities, brand language, and fundraising priorities.
This position is also responsible for writing highly personalized donor acknowledgment letters, award nominations, and donor stories for publication online and in UNCG's endowment reports and flagship magazine. The writer also must have a strong grasp on the University style guide, as well as University brand guidelines and messaging, in order to assist with proofing materials created by the department and by other colleagues within the Advancement Division.
Minimum Qualifications

BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN A DISCIPLINE RELATED TO THE AREA OF ASSIGNMENT; OR EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE. ALL DEGREES MUST BE RECEIVED FROM APPROPRIATELY ACCREDITED INSTITUTIONS.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates
Preferred Qualifications

  • Five (5) or more years of professional experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this position.
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to adhere to style guides.
  • Ability to effectively adapt writing style and voice and respond well to feedback.
  • Must have the ability to learn, be flexible to change, and be innovative.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders at various levels with a variety of backgrounds.
  • Ability to be creative and proactive yet disciplined, in order to prioritize workload.
  • Ability to work efficiently and professionally in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Must have communication skills and abilities needed to work well with others and be flexible in approach.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with data repositories or donor engagement platforms such as Banner 9 or EverTrue.
  • Experience with content management systems such as WordPress.
