Job Summary

The Research Finance Analyst uses skills as a seasoned, experienced administrator to independently manage the financial and post-award components of research, awards and transactions related to contract and grant management and maintains contract and grant records in compliance with institutional research sponsor policies. Work on proposals and awards of diverse scope where analysis of data requires thorough understanding of complex regulations. Completes and approves transactions for signature by manager or other authorized institutional official. Works on complex proposals and awards that may involve multiple investigators and / or multiple sub awards. Guides less experienced staff. Typically manages complex grants / and contracts which require task budgets, option years, multiple investigators and multiple sub awards.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $81,000 - $121,600 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Division of Hematology/Oncology is the largest Division in the Department of Medicine (DOM). Currently, the Division has 90+ Full-time faculty, 11 part-time and/or volunteer faculty, 29 Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and non-ACGME fellows, 22 post-doctoral fellows, 32 Non-faculty appointments and 48 administrative and research staff. The Division's research, clinical and teaching functions are primarily split between the Parnassus and Mission Bay campuses, although the faculty, fellows, and staff have appointments and clinical, research, and educational activities at Zuckerberg San Francisco General (ZSFG), and Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) as well.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, business or related area and 3 years of equivalent experience / training in a financial management.
• Understand general fund accounting, purchasing, and budgeting, financial projection and business planning concepts.
• Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles
• Excellent computer skills and facility with using MS Excel (sorting, pivot tables, filtering, basic formulas
• Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
• Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
• Ability to manage significant volume of transactions.
• Independent judgment and strong organization and communication skills and customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas.

Preferred Qualifications

• Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.
• Thorough knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
• Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
• Previous working experience in an academic environment.
