About the Job

The Department of Neurology is seeking an experienced Research Coordinator to assist with conducting clinical research protocols, recruitment, and study visits in the ALS Research Program under the direction of David Walk, MD. The candidate will consent and enroll participants, and complete study visits both in-person and remotely. This role will support clinical studies for investigational products for people living with ALS in addition to health data and biosample collection studies for people living with ALS. An ideal candidate will have experience conducting clinical or behavioral research studies in Psychology, Neurology, Psychiatry, Neuroscience, biospecimen, or a related field. The ALS Research Program values professional development and is excited to support the chosen candidate as they advance their research career.

This position is Hybrid - Minimum 2-3 days/week on campus.

Job Responsibilities:
50% - Research Study Visits
- Screen, consent, and recruit participants and work with PI in determining participant eligibility.
- Serve as research coordinator to run research study visits (some are considered clinical research studies) with participants in-person at the ALS Clinic and remotely.
- Process biospecimen samples from research visits (training will be provided).
- Enter data from research visits.
- Work with clinics and labs external to the University to conduct participant visits.
- Ensure a safe physical environment for research participation.
- This position will require coordination on participant recruitment, data collection, and biospecimen collection from external sites and remote participants. Some travel to Minnesota locations outside of the Twin Cities may be required.

30 % -Research Study Coordination
- Identify study-visit related needs/gaps and report them to the ALS Research Program Manager or Research Coordinator Manager.
- Maintain accurate and complete study records from participant visits.
- Coordinate with monitor personnel and sponsors for research site audits.

10% - Research Support
- Assist ALS Program Manager with database creation and maintenance.
- Provide feedback on and assist ALS Program Manager with preparing research study operational management plans and research study standard operating procedures (SOPs).

10% - Administrative Duties
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to the ALS Research Program.
- Use project management software that is in place for the ALS Research Program to track study-related tasks.
- Attend ALS Program meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials

Required Qualifications:
-BA/BS degree in a health-related field (Pre-Med, Psychology, Neuroscience, Nursing, etc.) plus at least four (4) years of work experience or advanced degree plus 2 years of experience in research setting or a combination of related education and work experience to equal eight (8) years.
-Experience with recruiting study participants and running research participant visits.
-Ability to collaborate with clinical sites to conduct research visits.
-Interest in learning how to complete remote participant visits.
-Experience problem solving and prioritizing essential clinical research components of a research participant visit.
-Organized with excellent attention to detail.
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-Leadership skills

Preferred Qualification:
-Familiarity with regulatory research processes within the context of participant-facing research visits (e.g. consenting participants for research, HIPAA form completion).
-Enthusiasm for medical research studies and being a part of the decision-making process for research.
-Openness to working on site (Twin Cities) at least 2-3 days per week.
-Certified clinical research professional (e.g.,SoCRA or ACRP). We would also support a
research professional who wishes to get their SoCRA or ACRP certification.

About the Department

The University of Minnesota ALS Certified Treatment Center of Excellence provides comprehensive management for people living with ALS, and has the ALS Association's highest level of certification. The clinic meets weekly and is staffed by two board-certified Neuromuscular Medicine neurologists each week as well as a nurse, physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, dietician, genetic counselor, research coordinator, social worker, and ALS Association representative.

Providing the most advanced therapies for neurological disorders is the goal of the Department of Neurology. Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $65,000 -$83,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
