JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The School of Public Policy at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor in Public Policy. The position is co-funded by the Social Science Research Institute (SSRI), whose strategic mission is to foster interdisciplinary research that addresses critical human and social problems at the local, national, and international levels. The successful candidate will serve as a member of the SSRI leadership team.

Responsibilities include teaching public policy courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels and service to the school and SSRI. The candidate may teach Master of Public Policy core courses, policy specialization classes, or undergraduate courses in their areas of interest and expertise. Most teaching is expected to be in residence, but online courses are possible when they meet the needs of the program and students.

The Assistant Teaching Professor will work closely with the SSRI Director and Executiveteamto oversee the development and implementation of the SSRI strategic plan. Other activities may include guiding and supporting strategic planning, faculty development programs, the development of research infrastructure and community and policy engagement proposals to external funders, and other activities that support the SSRI mission.

Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in public policy, economics, political science, or related field by the appointment date. Successful candidates must have demonstrated teaching excellence in public policy, political science, or economics. Teaching experience on topics related to race and public policy is desirable.

In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.

This is a non-tenure-track, term appointment, with an excellent possibility of renewal.
