Corporate EHS Senior Manager
The Corporate EHS Senior Manager leads, manages, and provides strategic direction for nLIGHT's environmental, health, and safety programs across all U.S. locations. This role ensures compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, promotes a culture of world class safety, and drives continuous improvement in EHS performance. This position provides leadership and direction to the onsite EHS Manager in each U.S. location and reports directly to the Global QEHS Director in Camas, Washington.
This is an onsite position based in Camas, Washington, with travel of up to 20% locally between Camas, Vancouver, WA and Hillsboro, OR, and approximately 2-3 days per month overnight in Longmont, CO.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategy:
  • Develops and implements global EHS policies, standards, and programs.
  • Provides strategic direction and oversight for EHS initiatives.
  • Creates a positive partnership with Company Leadership and serves as the point of contact for EHS-related matters.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership to integrate EHS into business operations.
  • Leads Corporate Safety Committee meetings.
  • Provides supervision and leadership to direct reports including employee performance management, motivating and facilitating continuous learning and development, conducting annual performance appraisals, and providing timely feedback and recognition.
Compliance and Risk Management:
  • Ensures compliance with all local, state, federal, and international EHS regulations.
  • Conducts regular audits and inspections to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Develops and manages internal EHS audits and self-assessment of the company, including risk assessments at varying levels, and acts as a trainer/advisor to internal auditors.
  • Reviews and approves the compliance of new equipment through nLIGHT's station sign-off process.
  • Oversees incident investigations and corrective actions.
Laser Safety Officer
  • Acts as subject matter expert for laser safety in the US and in coordination with other global nLIGHT locations.
  • Reviews and approves Laser SOPs and station set-ups.
Product Safety Compliance
  • Supports QEHS Director and Engineering regarding product safety and environmental compliance.
Training and Development:
  • Identifies, develops, and provides EHS training and education.
  • Develops and oversees the delivery EHS training programs for employees at all levels.
  • Monitors the EHS training matrix to ensure ongoing compliance and competency.
  • Promotes a culture of continuous learning and improvement in EHS practices.
  • Leads by example.
Corporate EHS Policies
  • Ensures EHS Policies are consistent with statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Reports EHS Policy nonconformances to the QEHS Director.
  • Provides all levels of the company with advice related to EHS matters, legal requirements, and best practices.
EHS Management System
  • Plans, develops, implements, and maintains EHS policies, procedures, and programs in the US. Standardize with other global nLIGHT locations.
  • Coordinates safety inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA standards, ensures prompt response to safety violations including reporting findings, identifying corrective and/or preventative measures, and monitoring follow-up inspections.
  • Provides coaching to managers to ensure technical competence and EHS leadership development.
  • Provides oversight of the Emergency Response Teams.
  • Provides oversight of the hazardous material receiving and disposal processes.
  • Executes a robust Hazard Communication Program including the availability of correct and current SDS.
Program Management:
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of EHS management systems.
  • Develops, implements and maintains reports on EHS performance metrics and KPIs.
  • Completes and submits nLIGHT EHS Scorecards, OSHA Logs, and environmental reports for US locations each month.
  • Leads or participates in investigations of serious incidents. Examines and interprets incident data, identifies root causes, and verifies/monitors corrective/preventive actions.
  • Works with 3rd party Worker's Compensation claims adjusters to ensure accurate reporting.
  • Leads EHS projects and initiatives to drive improvements in safety and sustainability.
Communication and Collaboration:
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for EHS matters with regulatory agencies.
  • Fosters strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Communicates EHS policies, procedures, and expectations clearly and effectively.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, occupational health, safety management, or a related field is desired. A master's degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in EHS management, with at least 2 years in a senior leadership role.
  • 2+ years working in EHS in a high-tech manufacturing company is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of EHS regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA, etc.).
  • Strong project management skills and experience with EHS management systems.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Certification in EHS (e.g., CSP, CIH) is highly desirable.
  • Product safety compliance knowledge.
  • 2+ years of experience in creating and/or training employees on regulatory programs.
  • Excellent oral and written skills and an ability to effectively communicate ideas in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to analyze and navigate complex and ambiguous situations.
  • Ability to provide solutions to challenging situations, while promoting a productive and positive work environment.
  • Ability to establish relationships while maintaining a neutral and unbiased stance.
  • Ability to use sound judgement and discretion, and to escalate issues, as appropriate.
  • Demonstrated ability to protect confidential and proprietary information and set professional boundaries.
  • This position will require local and overnight travel to various company locations.
  • Ability to work in both office and industrial environments, including clean rooms and labs.

Salary level based on qualifications:

  • Senior EHS Manager - $115,000 - $160,000 annually
