Introduction

The Commonwealth's Attorney is one of five constitutional officers in the Loudoun County government. The primary function of the office is to investigate and prosecute felony, misdemeanor, traffic, and juvenile criminal cases in concert with local and federal law enforcement agencies, as well as complaints from private citizens.


Job Summary

The Loudoun County Commonwealth Attorney's Office seeks a full-time Senior Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney. The selected candidate will be responsible for the management and prosecution of cases in General District and Circuit Courts; Manages felony caseload; Coordinates witnesses and follows investigative matters with law enforcement through the preliminary hearing stage; Evaluates and screens cases for disposal in District Court or indictment in Circuit Court; Provides performance direction, feedback, mentoring, coaching and training to staff; Promotes teamwork and collaboration.

The selected applicant must be: able to manage a heavy caseload; skilled at legal research and writing; able to work both independently and collaboratively in an office that values integrity, civility, initiative, sound judgment and skilled advocacy.

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.


Minimum Qualifications

Requires a Juris Doctor Degree (JD) from an accredited law school (or equivalent as state law provides), three (3) years of experience as a licensed practicing attorney, licensed member of the Virginia State Bar.

Preferred experience with jury trial and public relations experience in legal field related to assigned area and with extensive operational or administrative experience.


Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Must be licensed to practice law in Virginia. Must be a member in good standing with the Virginia State Bar (ability to obtain a waiver of admission within a reasonable time is also acceptable but should not exceed four (4) months). Continue legal education annually.

Successful candidates will undergo background checks as required.
