Position Overview

Position Summary:
The College of Education and Technology seeks a qualified individual as an assistant/associate professor of Reading/Literacy in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Responsibilities include a 12-hour undergraduate/graduate teaching load per semester (face-to-face, online and/or live video, participating in programmatic assessment, student advising, completion of scholarly endeavors, and service to the University and the profession. The appointment will be at a rank commensurate with academic training and experience. This is a residential appointment, and campus presence is required.


Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate/graduate courses in various formats, such as face-to-face, lecture capture, and/or online video, particularly courses related to PK-12 literacy development
  • Coordinate curriculum, resource faculty for, and delivery of ENMU's developmental reading courses for underprepared freshmen
  • Develop and revise content for courses to meet the expectations of various accrediting bodies and stakeholders
  • Assure, as part of a team of faculty, student success on required licensure exams and student portfolios
  • Establish and maintain relationships with agencies for field placements and work collaboratively with the Teacher Education Office director to establish placements and placement protocols
  • Use, analyze, and synthesize data for program planning with reading/literacy and department faculty
  • Advise and assist students in a professional and collegial manner
  • Attend departmental and University faculty meetings and external meetings as required.
  • Engage in scholarly activities according to the field
  • Provide service to the profession and University
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • An earned doctorate in elementary reading/literacy (or a closely related field) is preferred (ABD considered)
  • A minimum of three years of K12 teaching experience
  • Prior experience in developing and teaching online courses utilizing various online learning platforms is preferred
  • Prior experience in teaching in a multidisciplinary classroom is preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Expertise in early and elementary literacy development and/or developmental reading approaches with underprepared freshmen will be given preference
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt new technologies
  • Communication and collaboration skills to facilitate working effectively with students, other faculty, alumni, professional groups, and agencies

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work is sedentary in nature that at times, requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
